SINGAPORE – Make family time all the more special with these ideas and activities.

Local children’s book series What Ants Do is getting adapted for the stage. Adventures With Andi is a 75-minute production with songs that is based on the three picture books (2021 to present) written by Ms Sun Xueling and illustrated by Mr Josef Lee.

Recommended for families with children from three to 12 years old, it runs at School of the Arts Singapore’s Drama Theatre from June 9 to 11.

Cheer for Andi the Ant as he tackles challenges while searching for the true meaning of home and friendship.

Ms Sun, Minister of State for Home Affairs and Social and Family Development, first came up with the tales during bedtime storytelling sessions with her daughters.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to share the important values of equality, respect, courage and love with more families,” she tells The Straits Times. “The books and the play go hand in hand to reinforce reading and learning for children.”

The production is presented by KidSTART Singapore, a non-profit organisation supporting lower-income families in early childhood development.

Beneficiaries can register for free tickets at go.gov.sg/kslawaff by May 16 and also receive a set of three What Ants Do books.

朱莉安娜（Juliana binte Samsudien，35岁，教学助理）今年带着自己五个孩子来观看表演，相比于去年第一届演出，她认为这次由故事书改编而成的戏剧更丰富和有趣，“一起读书时他们就一直问我问题，今天看到书中真实的人物，小孩子们都非常兴奋”。

幼儿培育辅助计划（KidSTART Singapore）推出的互动式儿童戏剧《安迪的奇遇》于6月9日（星期五）举行开幕表演，内政部兼社会及家庭发展部政务部长孙雪玲与约300名接受KidSTART援助的父母和孩童观看了演出。该剧由孙雪玲的系列丛书《What Ants Do》改编而来，讲述了名为安迪的蚂蚁环游世界的故事，并结合歌舞表演和手工体验，传递善良、关怀与合作的价值。

活动得到新加坡能源集团的支持，每个KidSTART家庭都获得免费赠送的门票和丛书，让他们在看戏之前了解故事的内容。

孙雪玲说：“这个活动是全国家庭周的一部分，希望家庭可以从戏剧中得到有意义和积极的体验，孩子们也可以通过安迪的故事，了解核心家庭价值观，如爱、关怀和尊重。”

俏蒽（23岁，学生）与丈夫带着一岁半的女儿来度过快乐的家庭时光，她说，戏中的歌舞是印象最深刻的部分，因为女儿非常喜欢唱歌跳舞，尽管歌舞不是书中的内容，但它给了故事新的活力。“小孩也更有兴趣读书，因为现在读故事的时候可以想到那些音乐和舞蹈。”

表演将持续到11日，预计约2000名家长和儿童将前来观演。除收到赠票的KidSTART家庭外，其他公众可上网购票。

KidSTART lancar pementasan galak kanak-kanak tingkat bahasa, membaca

Seramai 300 ibu bapa dan kanak-kanak hadir menyaksikan pelancaran pementasan Adventures with Andi pada Jumaat, yang berlangsung dari 9 hingga 11 Jun di Sekolah Seni Singapura (Sota).

Penerbitan itu berdasarkan siri buku berjudul ‘What Ants Do’ yang ditulis oleh Menteri Negara (Ehwal Dalam Negeri merangkap Pembangunan Sosial dan Keluarga), Cik Sun Xueling, dan telah diadaptasi ke dalam drama teater oleh pakar awal kanak-kanak, Cik Puspavalli Namasivayam.

Sesuai bagi kanak-kanak berumur tiga hingga 12 tahun, ia mengisahkan perjalanan penemuan Andi ketika dia menangani cabaran yang mengancam keluarga dan rakannya untuk mencari erti sebenar rumah tangga dan persahabatan.

Turut melancarkan penerbitan teater itu bersama Cik Sun Xueling adalah Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif KidSTART Singapura, Cik Rahayu Buang; pakar awal kanak-kanak, Cik Puspavalli Namasivayam; ilustrator buku Encik Josef Lee; Pengarah Artistik Bersama, Cik Melissa Sim; dan keluarga-keluarga KidSTART.

Dihasilkan oleh KidSTART Singapura, dengan sokongan SP Group, penerbitan itu merupakan sebahagian daripada inisiatif KidSTART Stories yang memperkenalkan penceritaan kepada kanak-kanak dan keluarga menerusi pengalaman teater yang menyeronokkan.

Ia juga bertujuan memupuk minat membaca di kalangan kanak-kanak, di samping menggalak mereka untuk bertanya, berimaginasi dan meningkatkan kebolehan berbahasa.
